What is Music.png

At Dale we teach music through Charanga’s English Model Music curriculum, as well as through weekly Music assemblies held for individual year groups. In addition, we offer the Wider Opportunities programme to all children in Year 4, followed up in later years should children choose to continue.

At Dale children learn to perform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of genres, styles and traditions.

Our children are taught to sing and to use their voice, creating and composing music on their own and with others. They are given the opportunity to learn a musical instrument, use technology appropriately and have the opportunity to progress to the next level of musical excellence, should they choose.Through exploration our children also develop an understanding of how music is created, produced and communicated, including through the inter-related dimensions.

Music is a universal language that allows people to express themselves creatively. A high-quality music education should engage and inspire children to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and so increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement. As children progress, they should develop a critical engagement with music, allowing them to play, compose, and to listen with discrimination to a range of compositions.
