At Dale and Stonehill we work around our city-centre location, to provide as much access to the outdoors for our children as possible. We have been very grateful to receive support from our local community to provide us with a large allotment, located just a few steps from our school gates. We have also received funding from the National Education Nature Park Programme, supported by the Royal Horticultural Society, to establish some excellent green spaces within our playground boundary, including a sensory garden and vegetable patch.

We have also been working with the Derbyshire Wildlife Trust, supporting their rewilding programme of local parks in Derby, specifically Normanton Park, located just around the corner from school. Children have been clearing areas, planting bulbs, building bug hotels and spending time learning about local wildlife.

The Focus Foundation have also funded students to take part in a Forest Schools Programme on the outskirts of Belper. Children have been selected to join qualified practitioners to experience many outdoor activities including: hiking, fire building, outdoor cooking, archery, hammock building, tool making, tent building, learning about the local floral, fauna and wildlife and exploring the woodland and all it has to offer!
