Open day & Rolls Royce boat race

All this week The Big Splash has taken over Dale. To mark the end of it we invited parents and Stonehill Nursey to come and join the fun at our Open Day.

The water park on the playground has been the main attraction as well as activities indoors including a rubber duck beauty contest! Not only have the children been having fun but have also learnt about the importance of water, the water cycle and how not to waste it.

With the support of Rolls Royce, some of our year 6 students have worked hard on a exciting engineering project. In groups they have planned, budgeted, designed and constructed a lightweight battery powered boat.

The race took place outside in the playground in a specially designed water run. To decide the winner, each team launched their boat 5 times along the chute. Points were decucted to the teams boats measuring over the regulation size aswell as a 5 second penalty every time the boat was adjusted on its course. An average was taken using the 5 timings along with any penalities.

After much excitement and tension the team crowned the champions and proud winners of the Rolls Royce trophy were The Dodgers!

A big congratulations to them and the runners up in the race. Plus a huge thank you to Will, Rob and Nabila from Rolls Royce for all their support and knowledge and for making it such a great event!

Thank you also to all the parents who came along and the staff for making it such a fantastic week! Let's start planning for next year!
